Our mission
The Centre of Islamic Spirituality and Knowledge (CISK) exists to revive classical Islamic learning for a modern world — and to make it a lived, communal experience rather than a private or purely academic one.
Too often the academy and the madrasa speak past one another: one rich in method but distant from devotion, the other rooted in tradition but cut off from contemporary thought. CISK sits deliberately in between — pairing the scholarly tools of the university with the spiritual seriousness of the khanqah.
We do this through research and writing, weekly gatherings, mentoring, and outreach that works against the isolation of modern life.

Khawar Amir
A researcher in Philosophical Sufism at the University of Leeds, working on the development of the self in the thought of Ibn Arabi, Ibn Sina and Rumi. MA in Philosophy (Birmingham), BA in Philosophy (Leeds). CISK grows from a simple conviction: that the depth of the academy and the heart of the madrasa belong together.
